(The value of creativity: The Erste Bank -composition commission 1989–2007)
The Erste Bank composition commission was established in 1989 and has been awarded since then according to the recommendation of the juror Lothar Knessl. Over the years it has become one of the most important awards in the area of new music in Austria. The 18 prizewinners to date reflect the wide range of styles in contemporary composition and reveal the significantnt contours of the landscape of new music in Austria. Through individual portraits and analyses of selected works as well as an introductory essay offering a broad overview the varied spectrum of new Austrian music during the past quarter of a century is revealed for the first time in such concentration.
The author Daniel Ender studied musicology, philosophy, German language and literature, piano and organ in Vienna and works as a freelance musicologist and music journalist, concentrating on the new music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
