Lost and Found - Six glances at a generation

In the film-project LOST AND FOUND six national stories from six Central and Eastern European countries told by six up-and-coming directors on the topic „generation“ reflect the talent and vitality as well as a new artistic awareness of today’s young film-makers in Eastern Europe.

A wedding party waits in suspense for the bride and groom
(THE RITUAL by Nadejda Koseva, Bulgaria).

A shy young girl goes to the capital for the first time and has to master a difficult situation (TURKEY-GIRL, by Cristian Mungiu, Romania).

Two children in the same city are born on the same day, but have no possibility of getting to know each other
(BIRTHDAY, by Jasmila Zbanich, Bosnia).

A suicide counselor finds himself in an existential conflict, when he attempts to master his own family situation after the death of his mother
(SHORT-LASTING SILENCE, by Kornél Mundruczó, Hungary).

And a streetcar conductor exceeds her authority but she finally finds happiness (FABULOUS VERA, by Stefan Arsenijevic).

All stories are tied together by the Estonian animation film GENE+RATIO by Mait Laas, which relates the fantastic journey of a matchstick man who helps give birth to a new
generation.

The idea for LOST AND FOUND was initiated by the project’s artistic director NIKOLAJ NIKITIN (chief editor / publisher of the film journal "Schnitt").
The producers HERBERT SCHWERING and CHRISTINE KIAUK from ICON FILM, Cologne, are responsible for the entire production – from developing the ideas of six screenplays, monitoring production in the individual countries right through to post-production in Germany.
A specialist committee with three renowned representatives of the German film scene is providing additional support for the project development: GABRIELE BRUNNEN-MEYER (Media Antenne Berlin-Brandenburg), director and screenplay writer DIDI DANQUART,
as well as SIBYLLE KURZ as dramatic consultant.

LOST AND FOUND had its world premiere as the opening film at the 35th International Film Forum at the 2005 Berlinale. The film is co-produced by relations - an initiative project of the KULTURSTIFTUNG DES BUNDES (German federal cultural foundation) and is being funded by the FILMSTIFTUNG NORTH RHINE-WESTPHALIA, the ROBERT-BOSCH-FOUNDATION, the Institute for Foreign Relations (IFA) and the GOETHE INSTITUTE. Renowned partners from industry have been secured, such as the BMW Group and ERSTE BANK. BAVARIA INTERNATIONAL handles the world sales.
