Exhibition of Peter Kogler at MUMOK

In the early 1980s, Peter Kogler turned away from techniques of painting which were considered to be new at that time towards media and computer technology using them as the foundation for his installation and space-based works.

Already with his early works operating between the image and object, Peter Kogler made reference to the virtualization and mediatization of the life-world through contrasting and drawing together the perfectionism of new technologies with the motifs of the organic and the body. Here Kogler referred to filmic techniques of modernity, choosing the ant as symmetrically and ornamentally built and at the same time labyrinthinely organized living being to be the logo-like leitmotif for his art. The relationship to space and architecture, which from the beginning has been evident in his work, has led to countless commissions for works in architectural designs and in public spaces. The exhibition makes it possible to recognize continuities between the individual periods, spanning the distance between earlier works which had yet to be shown and new space-modulating computer projections conceived specifically for this exhibition. As part of the exhibition, Peter Kogler will create an installation on the outside of the museum.
