The publishing house Kalligram was established in 1991. Since then nearly 550 books have been published from authors and poets of central European origin and scope as well as from authors acknowledged in Europe or in the whole world. Kalligram belongs to the most appreciated publishing houses in Slovakia and has been awarded numerous literature awards and so called awards for “special cultural contribution”. By supporting Kalligram, Slovenská sporitelˇnˇa aims to strengthen the literary awareness especially among the young Slovak generation with academic background. Supported activities by Slovenská sporitelˇnˇa: Publication of “European Alphabet” by K.M. Gauss Since there is a lack of modern Austrian literature on the Slovak book market, the publishing of “European Alphabet” by Karl-Markus Gauss is an excellent opportunity to present the Slovak readers this well known essayist and critic as well as his lexicon of European terms such as identity, border, regional aspect, world language etc. Support of chosen Slovak libraries Chosen Slovak libraries in different regions will be given a donation of selected book publications of Kalligram. The objective of the project is to make professional and non-commercial literature available not only to intellectuals but also to secondary and university students as well as to the broad public.
