The issue of care has gained massive importance in public debate. This is important and necessary. But: caring means more! – at least more than is apparent in the current discussion. Apart from future-oriented financing and the development of support projects according to need, individual provision is important, too, with regard to health, finances and society. One key issue, however, can be located in the personnel sector: we have to succeed in winning over more motivated people for social occupations!
Several angles have to be worked in order to keep up with future personnel demands in the fields of care and assistance. We are facing the necessity of extensive education reforms in Austria. Those interested are confronted with too many obstacles. The system has to be adapted to the requirements of contemporary education needs and job careers, it has to become more permeable and needs stronger integration with the formal educational system. The possibilities for work returners in social occupations have to be improved drastically. A pragmatic order of occupations and tasks needs to be found which complies with the requirements of future provisioning structures. And finally there also is the necessity to improve the image of social occupations and to enable attractive general conditions for workers in the sector.
Information and knowledge about adequate offers and partners are important – whether one is looking for support and advice regarding comfortable ageing, or whether one wants to find out about job chances in the field of care and assistance. The HILFSWERK INITIATIVE 2011/12 makes an active contribution to this end.
