VIENNA DESIGN WEEK

The Vienna Design Week is an annual international design festival, focusing on product and industrial design.

The events take place in different locations ins Vienna, in cooperation with several local partners and institutions, who develop their festival contribution in agreement with the festival direction. In addition the festival direction is presenting own projects, like the Passionswege or an exhibition of the guest country of the festival. The festival concept differs from a commercial fair and tries to present design on the edge of experiment and commodity, of culture and economy.
The Vienna Design Week is not only about design, but about the city of Vienna and its very special material culture. Especially the parcours “Passionswege” guides the design aficionados to exceptional Viennese locations, shops or workshops, for which the invited designer has developed an intervention, or put on stage a product developed in close contact with and for the location. Additionally the Vienna Design Week plans not only to invite established designers, so called “big names”, but also to present young, upcoming designers at their career start. Especially designers of the adjacent countries in the east and in central Europe will be presented this year and in the coming years.
