Project: „An Indian Knows No Pain?“
A project by DSCHUNGEL WIEN Theater for Young Audiences and Landesjugendheim Korneuburg
Following a visit to the dance theater productions “The Boys are Back in Town” and “Boys Don’t Cry” (TheaterFOXFIRE & DSCHUNGEL WIEN), DSCHUNGEL WIEN is exploring the subjects “father-son relationships,” “masculinity” and “dance as a possible form of expression for guys” with eight to ten male adolescents from Korneuburg’s provincial youth center. In workshops with director Corinne Eckenstein and also young actors, the youths from Korneuburg will have a try at theatrical performance through movement and associative exercises, thus learning about different aspects of “masculinity.” In addition, a glimpse behind the scenes will introduce the participants to the various professions in the field of theater.
Project: „Request Concert“
A project by Klangforum Wien and Interface GmbH
New immigrant youths will express their opinions, ideas and desires about their own living environment and translate these statements into music in four workshops. With the help of musicians, they will independently study musical motifs on different instruments in small groups and subsequently create a composition in a joint group process. This musical manifesto will be presented as part of Klangforum Wien’s urbo kune project, dedicated to the vision of a common European capital city of culture, education and science.
Project: Workshop Series: "Tactless Dancing?!"
A project by Tanzquartier Wien and Frauen beraten Frauen
There are many, diverse reasons why women turn to the counseling center “Frauen beraten Frauen” (Women Advise Women). What they have in common is the desire for advice in situations that are often marked by social, psychosomatic and psychological problems. The workshop series Tactless Dancing?! aims to offer a counter-program to stressful everyday life. Different approaches to contemporary dance encourage the participants to develop a stronger sense of their own bodies, explore new forms of expression and movement in space. In professionally run workshops, they can break rank and also find out about the theory of contemporary dance and performance. In addition, they will have the opportunity to see the production Yes we can’t by the Forsythe Company at Tanzquartier Wien and exchange views on it. They will also explore the Tanztheater premises and its program “behind the scenes” and will make new contacts in the group, with whom they may be able to use the “Kulturpass” (culture pass) in the future.
Project: „StoffLicht“
A project by WestLicht and friends – Intercultural Children, Youth and Family Center
The goal of “StoffLicht” (Fabric Light) is an exchange between Vienna’s WestLicht photo museum and participants of the friends German course. In addition to the two institutions getting to know each other, the project focuses on the medium photography. Through an experimental process, using photosensitive color and sunlight to expose an image on fabric, photography becomes a voice for the exclusively Turkish-speaking women of all ages. The project facilitates mobilization for the women and effects a new perspective on seemingly familiar surroundings. Special emphasis is also placed on developing more openness to new ideas and thus strengthening one’s self-confidence. At the end of the project, the works will be presented in the form of an installation at the WestLicht photo museum.
Project: “Neighborhood 7” and “Waterways”: Urban Explorations in the 7th and 21st District
A project by Wien Museum, ITS Wien Laube GmbH and PSD 21
Together with adults participating in the work reintegration process of ITS Wien Laube (7th district) and clients of the Floridsdorf socio-psychiatric outpatient clinic (21st district), the Wien Museum will set out to trace the history of the respective districts. Historical, geographical and architectural sites will be explored in connection with the participants’ individual experiences, memories and emotions.
The point of departure is the Wien Museum with its historical objects, pictures and maps, as well as museum work itself: collecting and preserving, research and presentation. During walks in the neighborhoods the participants will acquire more in-depth knowledge, enriched by their own observations. For example, buildings will be viewed from different perspectives: the historical, archeological and personal. When and how did they emerge? What was in their place before? What special events took place there and what personal feelings do they evoke?
The idea behind the project is to gain a different perception of the personal living environment, which the participants will document in various ways (drawings, writings, photographs, collections, etc.). This will make it possible to draw up a new type of city map to be shown in a presentation.
